Now, that’s a fire… For our anniversary, I arranged to get everything Dan would need to have a fire in our fireplace. And he’s taken to it. As you can see - that’s all of the wood we had in the house, save some of the Duralog-type things we have on hand.

In other house matters, we had to fix the upstairs toilet. It would run for about half a minute every five minutes or so. It turns out that the actuator disk was breaking down. So we got a new one. And it took longer to get the bad one out than to put the new one in. Cost of the repair -$3. Of course we still needed to go back to Home Depot once, that seems about standard for us.

Now to enjoy the fire as it burns out.

This is my house. Last week, nothing went wrong other than a stubborn toilet. It is an inefficient flusher. But I got that to resolve itself.

But this week, what went wrong was minor. The outside lights above the front door are out. So we (meaning Dan) need to change them. But they are not the standard bulb, so I hope they aren’t too hard to find replacements. And my question - do they have CFL equivalents?

Of course, this is something we need to take care of that, because Halloween is coming, and we can’t wait for the trick or treaters!

Stuff going wrong with my house

So at the end of August I bought a house.  It’s a nice house, a pretty house.  It’s also 80 years old.  It was in move in condition, but as houses are wont to do - things go wrong.  For example, two days after settlement, Tropical Depression Lee dumped a whole lot of water on us and flooded my shed.  Which wouldn’t have been so bad, if it weren’t connected to my house.  I learned a lot about water removal that week.

Then last week, the kitchen faucet broke.  And who know that if you send a picture of a sink to Moen, they will tell you which one it is, what part you need, and send it to you.  There are people who answer the phone who this is their job.  Pretty cool.  Except for the $75 price tag.

And then yesterday, when I was trying to take out the trash, the lock to the shed wouldn’t move.  As in unlock.  I despair of ever getting caught up with all the trash associated with moving.  The fix for that?  Learning that Dan has certain skills when it comes to breaking into deadbolts.  Yeah.  So, another deadbolt was purchased and installed.  That was this weeks installment of Stuff Going Wrong With My House.

Expect more to come, and if I even get into it - with pictures too!  I really do love my house.  I never thought I could live somewhere like this.  But I’m realizing how little I actually do know.

And one tip for y’all - never update your iPhone to IO5 45 minutes before you need to leave for work.  I wonder if that can be a legitimate excuse - my phone was updating and I couldn’t unplug it till it was done, so I couldn’t leave.  And I still need to update the iPad.  That will wait until tonight.  The question will be if it will be before or after I have to be a driver for the Kid.

Can’t sleep

Can’t sleep, tummy hurts. Have been thinking about Balticon, and was considering what books to take to get signed. I decided on none. I won’t trouble authors for a signature.

In fact, I’m feeling very anti-promoting for the weekend. I’m not going to network, or to brag about my numbers, or flaunt my creativity. I’m going to have FUN. And I will. Lots of it.

What I am hoping is to have wonderful interactions from those I call friend. Maybe find someone new to read. Possibly get tipsy.

I can’t wait.

If only I could sleep. Though maybe this is my brains way of getting me on the con time table.

I don’t care. Want to sleep. Stupid tummy.

Sometime soon: regarding con bags. What kind to carry, what to put in it.

Just realized

That I’ve had this account for a couple of years. Oh well, picking it back up now because it seems the easiest, no fuss way to get my thoughts out. Word Press is nice, but I spent more time fiddling with it than I liked.

And I’m not one if these people that cares about hits, counts or comments. I just want an outlet for what is in my brain. Really, some of those people spend so much time talking about their blogs that they don’t realize that their content isn’t worth reading.

Not that this is. It’s drivel really.

Balticon

Heading to Balticon next weekend. While I’m not a guest this year, I am participating in a few panels. However, I don’t have the official schedule yet. But, I will be at the Empress Sword book release, the Girls Rules live show, and the Metamor City live show. All of which are happening on Sunday.

The Quicksilver kid will also be coming with me, so this will be a new experience. But with some guidelines set down, I think we will both have a great weekend.

Given I’m trying to keep costs down, I am going to try and eat out as little as possible, which means so creative methods of trying to eat as healthy as possible. More on this as my plans evolve.
